Berkel was founded in the Netherlands in 1898 following W.A. Van
Berkel's invention of the first successful meat slicing machine.
Manufacturing and marketing in the United States commenced in 1909.
The company grew to become a worldwide manufacturer of food
preparation equipment and electronic weighing and labeling products.
In 1993 Berkel was acquired by the British industrial giant General
Electric Company P.L.C. (GEC), a global operation spanning every
